I’ve spotted some of you in at least a handful of ill-suited ensembles for whatever the occasion was during the cold season. I totally get it, the cold season can be such a buzzkill for all fashionistas. We all know how to dress up for summer or normal weather, but winter is where some of us draw the line.
Cold season clothes can look chic if you know how to style them correctly. Let’s dive right in and dress you up for this cold season.
Invest in jackets and coats
Put your best foot forward when it comes to trendy trench coats and bomba jackets. Have you had about leather Jackets? If you have, then you know they never go out of style.
Trench coats and jackets can be layered with other clothes making you look fashionable and chic.
If you’re going to wear the same coat every day, it should be something that makes you feel good. Instead of the same old neutrals, you might look for a puffy down jacket or classy wool coat in a bright color. Make a statement!
Normalize long-sleeved shirts, sweatshirts, and tees
For those who can’t stand heavy coats and jackets, opt for long-sleeved shirts and tees. In Kenya, the cold season is not as harsh, so wearing long-sleeved shirts may save you big time from having to carry around heavy puffy jackets.
Well, long-sleeved tees and shirts can provide adequate warmth without compromising your comfort.
Play with texture
Rule number one for fashion killers, don’t be boring! Cold weather fashion doesn’t have to be boring. Incorporate texture into your clothing, with ribbed and cable-knit cardigans, faux fur coats, shearling coats, leather pants, and quilted puffer coats. You can pair them with trousers, leggings, skirts, and dresses.
One thing about Nairobi, there are many places you can get vendors that sell cardigans, leather pants, and all other coats at pocket-friendly prices. I will do a vlog and show you exactly what I am talking about.
Wear boots
You can go for the dramatic thigh-high boots which have been trendy for years. However, a subtle pair of ankle boots will also do the trick. Style it with a dress or a pair of jeans and you’re good to go. You can never go wrong with boots.
Before the cold season, take your favorite boots to a shoe repair shop to get them reheeled and weatherized if needed. You don’t want to find out that your shoe has a hole.
Belt up your coat
To get a sophisticated look or rather get a coat to highlight your best features, belt up your trench coat, fur coats, and long jackets.
There aren’t many styling options for coats, which can make them look bland by the end of the day When you’re tired of the same old plain-looking coats, you can add a little flair by belting them up. Additionally, you can wear any kind of belt with this look.
Invest in stockings
Cold seasons don’t mean you stop wearing your stylish short skirts and dresses. Stockings are a lifesaver when you want to rock your dresses and stay warm. They also take your look from basic to sophisticated. Go for extra thick ones as they’re warmer and stick to black ones for a classy look. Pair them with skirts, shorts or short dresses.
